Assessment details Choose ONE character from the “Prologue” to The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer and subject it to a close reading. In other words, this assessment is asking you to examine closely (analyse), and comment on (reflect critically), Chaucer’s description of a particular character from the Prologue. The close reding should focus on any or all the following aspects of the character: descriptions of their face or body, voice, dress, behaviours, morality, attitudes and any other descriptive details you see as significant. Make sure you look carefully at the words chosen by Chaucer to describe the character and ensure that you identify why Chaucer may have used these particular words.
